Why another webite?
The ResCarta Foundation has been working with institutions to get their collections up on the web and searchable for quite a few years now. Part of that work has been to support the DLESE JOAI software which allows organizations to quickly post their holding's metadata for havesters to discover and aggregate. Levering the work at openarchives.org OAI/PMH (The Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting), we can create a site quickly and without a lot of work on our part. There are high end systems at research libraries, mainly to point researchers at hard to discover source materials, which have many more features than displayed here. We decided to take a more relaxed approach and just start hunting down providers and putting the metadata into a simple search like "da google". We think users will get the hang of it, if we don't get too complex. We hope you enjoy the site and that it takes you on a new and exciting adventure into the resources that can be discovered with OAI/PMH systems. As we grow by harvesting more sites, we will add features to the search capabilites. So stop back and see how we're doing. If you have a site you would like to have harvested, please contact us at info AT rescarta.org. Enjoy!!! Return to the OpenOAI search page. |
